Thirty for Dinner

Reflecting on what thirty individuals, dead or alive, I would want to attend a dinner party hosted by yours truly has been quite the task. Never having been one for hero worship I couldn't at first come up with more than five people. Turning to Courtney she reminded me of a few who should have been at the forefront of my list: John Waters for example. I can quote almost every line of dialog the man has written so why didn't I think of him?

Absent from the list are people I do admire but for some reason or another I didn't think of them until right now: Tori Amos, Carol Burnett, Nancy Kulp, and Mrs. Butterworth. Notice how I didn't mention any men? Argh, such a weakness. I think the fact that I grew up with a sister who is near my age, and I spent the majority of time with my mother, I find women more inspiring than men. It's surprising that I'm gay, isn't it? There are men on my thirty list as you'll see below.

Ultimately the list includes people in my almost 30 years who have had some sort of profound influence on me. I think everyone on the list inspires me still to this day in some way.

iCult

In early 2004 I went to San Francisco's downtown Apple Store. It was crowded with hipsters checking their email and testing the latest in Apple wares. I was with a friend who had two iPods and a iPod Shuffle. It amazed me that someone would need three of these devices. Ascending the staircase to the second floor I found a little theater where a group of inductees was being brainwashed into the iCult. I quickly looked away afraid that any exposure to the presentation would force me to part with some of the Franklins and Jacksons hanging out in my wallet.

A full year later I’ve given in. I broke down and joined the iCult. Possibly because of a latent suggestion that was placed in my brain a year ago. I now own a video iPod. It’s glorious. I’ve made love to it. Well, not really. I do recommend it—although I’m a little overwhelmed with all the cool stuff I can download as vodcasts. Like a tour of the de Young Museum, a sunset in Tuscany, or an exercise class. Heck I can even learn to speak better French.

So this little wonder now has my full seal of approval. I hightly recommened. If you haven't joined the iCult yet it isn't too late. Bruhahahahahahahahaha.

ROHTO V

For the past year I’ve been using an amazing eye drop product from Japan called Rohto V. I’m pretty surprised when I learn other people don’t know about it. Rohto V is not just like the multitude of lubricating/redness relieving eye drops on the market. What makes Rohto V special is its use of menthol. Yes, menthol the same stuff that helps open up congested sinuses.

Putting Rohto V in your eye is best likened to the imagined sensation you think you would feel if instead of putting an Altoid in your mouth, you stuck it in your eye. Strong, tingly and very refreshing. I can’t say enough about this product. It makes me tremendously happy. Anyone who has to sit at a desk and work in front of a computer screen for more than a few hours a day should invest in some of these wondrous drops.

Day-Glo a No-no

Jim and I were pretty entertained by this sight: a navy blue polo shirt tucked into these green Day-Glo jeans. The Castro had never been so colorful. Ah, the out-of-towners are in for Pride.

I turned to my friends for comments:

Trickybrit: The quicker he moved his legs, the more violent my seizures became!

Robert: Was he looking for an outfit that would stop traffic or just blind them?

Pop pop: Jaundice called; it wants its color back.

Kernan: A shoe-in nominee for the Big-Gay-and-not-a-Bear™ award given to girthy gentlemen with the courage to walk about proudly in a "hey, look at me" florid ensemble amidst the too-hot-for-your-tired-ass-gym-pumped-shirtless-porn god-pec crowds. Zingy color combo too. 100 "I am who I am" points.

Scott: i don't know, but it's making me wet!

Padric: Good if you are legally blind or visually impaired or want to cause someone to be. He's probably the person I want to sit next to on a plane should it crash into the Pacific Ocean at night...the rescuers would spot me in a second and I'd be saved. That color should never be put in the form of clothing unless you're a convict or Richard Simmons' assistant. Am I a bitch?
